GOP meets for annual event

May 3, 2013 By Jackie Johnson

State Republican Convention gets under way in central Wisconsin.

This weekend’s 2013 Republican Party of Wisconsin State Convention is a time for hundreds of like-minded conservatives from throughout the state to gather in one location and share their ideas.

GOP spokesman Nathan Conrad says the annual event gives folks a chance to talk policy, celebrate the party’s recent successes, energize the base, and strategize for the future. “We’re hoping to see at least 800 people up at convention, probably more.”

Republicans will meet at the Patriot Center in Rothschild, just outside Wausau. Party faithful will highlight the “unprecedented” investment made over the past year to increase the party’s footprint across the state, Conrad says, creating the potential to reach more voters. “Since the beginning of the year, we’ve opened five new regional headquarters that are fully staffed with field directors that are helping put forward our positive pro-growth conservative message and going into new areas we have not always been in.”

Conrad says the party will build upon its strengths and showcase a big line-up on Saturday, including Governor Scott Walker, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus, and Congressman Paul Ryan. Follow the activity on Twitter: @WisGOP #RPW2013

Conrad promises plenty of things to do all weekend to keep activists occupied and entertained. The 2013 Republican Party of Wisconsin State Convention starts Friday and runs through Sunday at The Patriot Center in Rothschild.
