Van stolen with child inside

June 12, 2013 By WRN Contributor

Fond du Lac Police are looking for a man suspected of stealing a minivan from a retail store parking lot that had a nine-year-old boy inside at the time.

Police Captain Pat McKeough says the van was stolen around five on Monday afternoon, after the boy’s mother ran into a store and left the keys in the ignition and the car running. He says it does not appear the thief was aware the child was in the backseat, until a cell phone the boy was holding started to ring.

The thief dropped the boy off on the side of the road, and then the child used a cell phone to call his father. Police says the thief did not threaten the boy, but just stopped the van and told him to get out.

The van has not been recovered. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s, with short hair and tattoos on his right forearm and the back of his right hand. He was wearing a black t-shirt, long black shorts, and brown work boots.
