Bernard Schaber will challenge Ellis

July 24, 2013 By WRN Contributor

A political challenge is brewing for state Senate President Mike Ellis. A Democratic lawmaker from Appleton is challenging the veteran Republican senator from Neenah in next year’s fall election.

Representative Penny Bernard Schaber thinks Ellis, who’s held his seat since 1982, is beatable. “We’ve heard that he might be a little bit vulnerable through a poll that feel that we did, and also just by talking to his constituents and my constituents,” she said. “People are not happy with what he’s been doing these past couple of years.”

Bernard Schaber said she’s running to protect public schools and health care. “I’d don’t think Senator Ellis has been doing a good job of that lately.” Ellis hasn’t faced a Democratic challenger since 1998.
