Supreme Court to hear Voter ID challenges

November 20, 2013 By Andrew Beckett

The state Supreme Court has agreed to take up another lawsuit challenging Wisconsin’s Voter ID law. The high court on Wednesday announced it will hear an appeal of a Dane County judge’s 2012 decision that found the law unconstitutional, and will consider arguments in the case at the same time is takes up a second challenge to the requirement that voters show a photo ID at the polls.

The lawsuit brought by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the immigrant rights group Voces de la Frontera was scheduled to go before an appeals court next month. The groups argue the law would disenfranchise voters who have a hard time obtaining a photo ID.

The Supreme Court will hear the NAACP challenge at the same time it takes up an appeal of a lawsuit filed by the League of Women Voters.
