Wisconsin gas prices at three year low

November 22, 2013 By Andrew Beckett

Holiday travelers hitting the road for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday should see some relief at the gas pump. Statewide average gas prices in Wisconsin have dropped to about $3.14 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel in recent weeks, the lowest they have been in almost three years.

Pam Moen with AAA Wisconsin says the average is down about $0.20 in the past month, and it’s about $0.25 lower than it was at this time last year. The statewide average is currently the lowest it has been in about three years.

Some stations in the southeastern Wisconsin have actually seen prices dip below the $3 mark, although Moen says it remains to be seen if the rest of the state will get there. Moen says “I’ve got my fingers crossed. If we can get this decrease in prices started again, we might be able to flirt with prices below that $3 a gallon mark before the end of the year.”

The last time Wisconsin’s average gas price was below $3 a gallon was around Christmas in 2010.

Moen says prices have been on the decline because there are ample supplies, demand is modest, and there have been no regional supply disruptions. If that continues, she says they could start to drop again in the coming weeks.
