Deadly Thanksgiving week on Wisconsin roads

December 3, 2013 By WRN Contributor

Thanksgiving week was twice as deadly as a year ago on Wisconsin highways.

Eight people died in six crashes in the five days between Tuesday the 24th and Saturday the 28th, according to Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The deadliest crash was near Janesville in Rock County, where three family members were killed in a two-vehicle collision.

Despite the increase in deaths over the holiday week, there’s been an overall decrease in traffic deaths on Wisconsin roads this year so far. The DOT says 495 people were killed in crashes in the Badger State in the first 11 months of 2013. That’s down 14 percent from the 574 traffic deaths in the same time period last year.
