Four different fire departments were on scene Saturday night fighting a fire at the Days Inn on 17th Avenue in Wausau. Wausau battalion chief Mark Krueger says they got a call Saturday night from the motel. “It was an alarm with a fire in the wall. When we got on scene there was smoke already showing on the roof.”
Guests were quickly evacuated to other motels in the area, and fire crews spent most of the night fighting the fire. Damage was mostly contained to the west side of the building, says Krueger. “The building does have some fire stops, and all of the damage was confined west of that wall, it really did it’s job. It didn’t allow any spread through the rest of the structure.” He says the rest of the building only shows smoke and water damage.
One person was injured in the fire with minor injures and transported to a hospital. A full report on the fire will be released later.
