Gogebic Taconite submits revised sampling plan

December 3, 2013 By WRN Contributor

Gogebic Taconite has submitted a revised and scaled back proposal for sampling iron ore at proposed mining site in the Penokee Hills.

Originally, the mining company was planning to excavate about four thousand tons of rock at five locations. Now, Gogebic Taconite is proposing to remove ore sample from three sites and only blast if it needs to collect additional material that crews cannot get with traditional excavation equipment.

The mining company submitted the revised plan last week. The Department of Natural Resources now must review the proposal and indicate what permits will be needed before Gogebic can proceed.
