Republicans hold on to Assembly seat

December 18, 2013 By WRN Contributor

A Wisconsin Assembly seat in suburban Milwaukee will stay in Republican hands.

Ken Skowronski got 64 percent of the vote in a special election held Tuesday, defeating Democrat John Hermes for the Assembly seat given up by Republican Jeff Stone of Greendale. Stone recently took a new job with the state Public Service Commission. Skowronski is an alderman in Franklin who received just under 4,000 votes. Hermes, the village president in Greendale, got almost 2,200.

The vote wraps a series of special elections to replace Republicans who left the Legislature this fall, and returns the GOP to a 60 to 39 majority in the Assembly after the party’s candidates won all three races. Voters also chose Republican candidates to replace outgoing Representatives Scott Suder and Mark Honadel.
