Packers release Van Roten

February 12, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers gave offensive lineman Greg Van Roten his walking papers on Tuesday.

Van Roten played in the first three games last season and was inactive for the next two.  He eventually landed on injured reserve with a foot injury.

With Evan Dietrich-Smith an unrestricted free agent and his status with the team yet to be determined, T.J. Lang is the remaining player with the most experience at center.  JC Tretter missed most of 2013 with an ankle injury is one of the prospects for the center job.  Fellow rookie Lane Taylor who can play both guard positions, could also be a candidate, along with practice squad member Garth Gerhart.
