Prosecutors filed seven charges Thursday against the 30-year-old woman, which include being a party to mistreatment of animals, giving poison to an animal, and intentional abandonment. The woman is accused of not taking action while her son dumped bleach on a puppy that was “biting” at his feet, placed the puppy in a trash bag, and then took it outside and put it in a dumpster. Another puppy was also splashed with bleach.
The two dogs, along with three others, have since been placed in foster care. Officials says the dogs injured by the boy have been treated for caustic burns to their eyes and mouths. One of the dogs also has permanent lung damage.
The woman faces an initial hearing next Tuesday in Fond du Lac County Court. If convicted, she faces up to eight years in prison.
