Abrar wins Green Bay Marathon in his first opportunity

Competing in his first Cellcom Green Bay Marathon, 30-year old Suleman Abrar from Maryland won the race in 2 hours, 24 minutes, 34 seconds, earning $3,000 for the win.

Abrar averaged 5:31 per mile, finishing in front of Paul Zdroik of Watertown who crossed the finish line in 2:25:36.

Former Seymour high school standout Tyler Sigl won the half marathon in 1:07:26.  It’s his second half marathon title after winning his first in 2011.

Olalde takes women’s crown

Gisela Olalde won the women’s marathon in 2 hours, 40 minutes and 35 seconds, beating Madison’s Emily Kurian my nearly five minutes (2:45:33).  Olalde is from Nashville, Tennessee.

Elizabeth Turner of Minneapolis won the women’s half marathon in 1:20:13.

Record turnout

The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon attracted a combined 6,990 people who ran the marathon or the half marathon.  It’s the most entries the race has attracted in its 15-year history.
