Clark County authorities have released details about a traffic stop that turned into a drug bust last month.
Jeffrey Mertens, 29, from Sheldon had an initial court appearance Tuesday. He was stopped for speeding the evening of May 27th on Highway 29 near Abbotsford.
The squad car Mertens raced past was the unmarked k9 unit. Mertens has a past record, and was on probation. The dog indicated the presence of drugs, and the officer found baggies of methamphetamine, another bag of meth in his shoe, a digital scale, and a recently used meth pipe. The search of the car also found a pistol holster, a twelve-inch bayonet, and a bottle of urine presumably used to pass urine tests for his probation agent.
Mertens is now jailed on a $10,000 cash bond awaiting his next court appearance on drug and weapon charges.
