A 37-year-old Rock County man is under arrest after authorities found 61 roosters bred for cock-fighting and 16 pounds of marijuana at his town of Newark home.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, Special Investigations Unit, and Animal Humane Deputy executed a search warrant at a residence on the 8400 block of West Mill Pond Road Tuesday after conducting a four-month investigation into the possible breeding of roosters for fighting.

Deputies found the caged roosters along with items associated with the breeding of the animals for cock-fighting. During the search, deputies also found 16 pounds of marijuana inside a crawl space in the residence.

Jorge A. Marquez was arrested for possession of THC with intent to deliver, instigating fights between animals, and maintaining a drug trafficking place.
