A man is hospitalized after a turkey hunting accident in Marathon County Sunday evening. Marathon County sheriffs deputies say the shot was fired by an 11-year-old boy who shot his father in the chest.

The incident happened Sunday evening shortly before 6pm near Marathon City, near Alpine Road and Highway B. Investigators say a family of four was turkey hunting when an adult male was shot in the chest. The wound is in the upper left part of his chest near his heart. The man was flown from the scene to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment.

The man’s name has not been released, and was in serious condition Sunday night. The shooting remains under investigation by the DNR.
