A 52-year-old Fond du Lac man, who was climbing Mt. Everest to raise funds for hospice programs, has survived the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit Nepal. The quake triggered avalanches on the peak and has killed more than 2,500 people.

According to posts on a Hospice website, Andy Land was in the Khumbu icefall region near the mountain’s base when the earthquake struck. Everyone on the team and in the camps was reported to be fine.

Land is the Director of Hospice and Palliative Care Services for Agnesian HealthCare. His goal was to raise awareness and $1 million for Hospice.
