Traffic crashes killed 63 on Wisconsin roads in September

The number of people killed in traffic crashes on Wisconsin roadways was up last month.

Preliminary statistics from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation show traffic crashes claimed the lives of 63 people in September, 16 more than September of 2014 and seven more than the five year average.

Over the first nine months of this year, there were a total of 424 traffic-related fatalities in Wisconsin, 60 more than the same period last year and 11 more than the five-year average. Last year, the state recorded its lowest number of traffic fatalities since 1943.
