The UW-Milwaukee Panthers (3-0) got into early foul trouble and trailed Santa Clara by six-points at halftime. They rebounded in the second half, going on a 21-5 run to pull out a 71-65 win over the Broncos to win the Cable Car Classic in Santa Clara, California.
The Broncos committed 19 fouls in the second half and the Panthers turned that into 19 free throws.
Akeem Springs had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Austin Arians added 14 points and JJ Panoske added 10 points in the win for the Panthers.
Milwaukee continues its road trip on Tuesday night when they face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend on Tuesday night.
