Marquette knocks off St. John’s after snow delay

January 25, 2016 By Bill Scott

MarquetteGoldenEagles2After being delayed a day by the East Coast snow storm, the Marquette Golden Eagles knocked off St. John’s on Sunday, 78-73 in Big East action.

The game was moved from Saturday night at Madison Square Garden to the much-smaller Carnesseca Arena in Queens on Sunday afternoon.  Only about one-thousand fans saw the contest.

Marquette led by ten points with eight minutes left to play but St. John’s almost caught up.  Frederico Mussini missed a potential game-tying three-pointer in the final minute as Marquette held on.

The Golden Eagles won despite turning the ball over 22 times.  Duane Wilson scored a game-high 17 points for Marquette.
