With the jackpot now the largest in U.S. history, Powerball tickets are expected to see a frenzy of buying ahead of tonight’s drawing.
Rose Gruber with the Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling says spending a few dollars for your chance at over $800 million can be good fun, but she urges buyers to be careful. “Don’t spend any more money than you can afford to lose…don’t take your money for paying your bills or your mortgage to buy lottery tickets.”
Those with a history of a gambling addiction may also want to sit out the drawing. “That could send you a trigger that could really escalate your gambling,” Gruber warns.
Those who feel tempted or need help struggling with a gambling addiction can call the council’s hotline at 1-800-GAMBLE-5.
