The state board that oversees elections and ethics issues in Wisconsin is getting two new members, even though the agency will cease to exist later this year.

Governor Scott Walker has appointed retired judges Victor Manian of Milwaukee County and Edward Leinweber of Richland County to the Government Accountability Board. They replace Thomas Barland of Eau Claire, whose term expired, and Elsa Lamelas of Shorewood, who resigned late last month.

The governor and Republican legislators decided late last year to replace the GAB with separate elections and ethics boards that will mostly have political appointees overseeing operations.
