There will be a primary in the race for state Supreme Court.

Three candidates filed their required nomination papers ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, setting up a February 16 primary in the race. Justice Rebecca Bradley will seek to retain her seat, while Appeals Judge Joanne Kloppenburg and Milwaukee Judge Joe Donald are challenging her.

Bradley was appointed last fall to fill out the remainder of Justice Patrick Crooks’ term, after he died in office last year. Crooks had already said he was not planning to seek reelection.

The top two candidates in the next month’s primary will square off April 5 for a full ten-year term on the state’s highest court.
