Police have identified a suspect in the Thursday night shooting incident that has left a Stevens Point man critically injured. A warrant has been served in Dane County in an attempt to find 30-year-old Kyle C. Engen. Engen is believed to be the man who shot 21-year-old Deonta Lezine near an apartment building in Stevens Point.
Police confirm the shooting was related to a drug deal, but haven’t released any additional details. Lezine was a 2013 graduate from Racine Horlick High School, and was a defensive end for the UW Stevens Point football team. He was not enrolled in college this semester.
Police Chief Martin Skibba confirmed that an attempt to apprehend Engen was unsuccessful Saturday in Dane County. Engen may be armed with a .38 caliber handgun, and is considered dangerous. Anyone with information about Engen’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact 911 immediately, and should not approach him. Anyone with information that may be related to the crime should call the call the Stevens Point Police Department at 715-346-1500.
As of Saturday, Lezine was still hospitalized and on life support.
