The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has extended the contract of men’s basketball coach Linc Darner two years through the 2021-22 season.
Darner just completed his first season in Green Bay, leading the Phoenix to a Horizon League Tournament Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Green Bay, which finished 23-13 overall, won four games in four days at the Horizon League Tournament in Detroit. The fourth-seeded Phoenix knocked off Cleveland State, Milwaukee, top-seeded Valparaiso and Wright State on its way to its first conference tournament title since 1996.
Darner brought an up-tempo style of play to Green Bay and it helped the Phoenix lead the nation in total steals and free throw attempts, while ranking second in steals per game and sixth in points per game.
All 12 players that played this past season posted new career highs in points per game under Darner. The 2015-16 squad also shattered a number of team season records, including points, steals, rebounds, free throws made and attempted.
Darner has an all-time head coaching record of 315-130 and has now won 20 or more games in nine-consecutive seasons.
