Wisconsin homeowners will share a one million dollar Powerball prize that was never claimed.

The state Department of Revenue said the winning ticket, purchased last September at a Kwik Trip in Eau Claire, was never cashed. By law, the winner had 180 days to claim the prize money at the state lottery headquarters in Madison, after which it’s directed to property tax relief for eligible state residents.

The DOR’s Stephanie Marquis said it’s rare for a prize of that size not to be claimed. Lottery officials did put out a statewide alert recently, in an attempt to get the winner to come forward.
