Fire damages Algoma marina

June 23, 2016 By WRN Contributor

An overnight fire damaged several boats at the Algoma Marina. Three boats sank and two have extensive damage.

Firefighters faced some difficulties because the wind helped the fire spread to other boats.  Algoma Fire Chief Tom Ackerman says based on the video a bystander shot, they believe they know which boat the fire started on.

There’s a lot of fuel in the water, so barriers have been put up as DNR and Coast Guard units help with the cleanup.

There’s no word on what caused the fire. The marina may be open by Friday and into the weekend, but there is also damage on some of the docks.
