Suspect arrested in Superior arson spree

June 24, 2016 By WRN Contributor

A suspect in a string of five fires in Superior on Tuesday night was in court Thursday to face arson charges. Twenty-six-year-old Joseph Insua, who was a resident of the apartment where the first fire was reported, had his bail set at $25,000 and was returned to the Douglas County Jail until another court appearance next week.

Superior firefighters had one of their busiest nights in decades, simultaneously fighting five fires and calling in just about every firefighter in the city, including many who were off duty. “If we would have had one more major fire call in that night, we would have utilized mutual aid with Duluth Fire Department,” said Battalion Chief Steve Edwards.

Superior Police say Insua confessed to lighting the fires during interviews after his arrest.
