A 57-year-old man is in critical condition after firefighters pulled him from the debris of a house explosion in Fitchburg Thursday evening.
“This is a significant explosion,” said Fitchburg fire chief Joe Pulvermacher. “We haven’t seen one like this in the city of Fitchburg.”
Firefighters smelled a strong odor of gas. The Red Cross is assisting residents in the neighborhood who were displaced from the explosion, which spread debris around the area. More than 20 other homes were damaged and some may need to be pulled down.
