After being named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week on Monday, Wisconsin’s Molly Haggerty was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Haggerty is just the fourth Wisconsin player and the first Badger freshman to receive the national award.
On the season, Haggerty leads the Badgers and ranks seventh in the Big Ten with 4.00 kills per set. She leads all freshmen in the Big Ten in kills per set and ranks sixth among rookies with a .243 hitting percentage.
Haggerty joins former Badgers Lizzy Fitzgerald, Jenny Maastricht and Jackie Simpson as the only national players of the week in school history.
The third-ranked Badgers take a 8-1 record into the start of Big Ten play this weekend. Wisconsin hosts Ohio State (10-2) on Friday and Maryland (8-4) on Saturday at the UW Field House.
