Schmitt initial court appearance Wednesday

October 4, 2016 By WRN Contributor

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt’s initial appearance for allegedly breaking campaign finance law will happen Wednesday. Schmitt was charged last month with three misdemeanor counts, which were originally felonies, for allegedly receiving improper campaign donations.

As part of a plea deal, Schmitt is expected to plead guilty in exchange for prosecutors not recommending any jail or probation time.

Schmitt’s attorney says the Mayor won’t appear at the initial appearance, which will lead to a scheduling of a plea and sentencing hearing. Online court records already list that hearing as happening at 9 a.m. on December 5th.

WTAQ has obtained the Brown County Sheriff’s Department investigative report, which detailed interviews with two dozen witnesses interviewed as part of the probe.
