The two teenage girls accused of stabbing a classmate 19 times as a sign of allegiance to a fictional horror character will face trial separately.
A Waukesha County judge on Monday said Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, who were both 12-years-old at the time of the 2014 attack, will receive their own trials. The move comes at the request of Geyser’s attorney, amid concerns both girls have made accusations against each other for their roles in the incident.
Both girls have been ordered to stand trial as adults.
Geyser’s attorney has also asked for a change of venue and that her confession, in which she states they stabbed their victim to please the Slenderman character, be thrown out. Paul Renkis, a detective who interviewed Geyser after the crime, told the judge he read the girl her Miranda rights and she agreed to talk.
The judge will rule on those requests at a future hearing.
