December 15, 2016 By WRN Contributor

The percentage of personal income Wisconsinites are paying to state and local taxes has dropped.

Newly released Census Bureau figures show Wisconsin’s state-local tax burden declined from 15th highest among the states in 2013 to 16th in 2014. Statewide, taxes relative to income dropped to 10.8 percent, down from 10.9 in 2013.

The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance notes there are also various fees charged by state or local governments. Combined, taxes and fees in Wisconsin claimed 13.8 percent of income in 2014, down from 14 percent the previous year.
