The State Patrol advises no travel in northwestern Wisconsin today and tonight. Severe wintery weather is blasting that portion of the state, and the National Weather Service expects heavy snowfall in communities such as Superior, Ashland and Spooner. Total accumulations may reach 18 inches in some locations. Chris Ouellette with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation says the DOT has not closed any highways in the region, but the State Patrol has advice for folks who may be considering travel: don't. Along with the snow, the storm system is bringing high winds, with gusts up to 50 miles an hour. Not surprisingly given the conditions, there also reports of scattered power outages.
