Brewers fall to the Pirates

September 27, 2011 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers missed an opportunity to extend their lead over Arizona to host a first round playoff series.  The Brewers fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-8 Monday night at Miller Park while Arizona lost to Los Angeles 4-2.

Shaun Marcum struggled in his final regular season start for Milwaukee.  Marcum lasted just 4 2/3 innings surrendering 7-runs on 10-hits in a no decision.  At the plate, the Brewers saw some success with Pittsburgh pitching.  Prince Fielder, Corey Hart, Nyjer Morgan and Yuniesky Betancourt each had 2-hits.  Betancourt also drove in 4-runs.  Brewers Manager Ron Roenicke was happy with how his team battled…

Ryan Braun did not start the game but got a double in his only at-bat as a pinch hitter.  Braun is batting .334 on the season which has him tied with New York Mets SS Jose Reyes for the National League Lead.  Reyes was 3 for 4 last night.

Game 2 of the 3 game series is tonight as Milwaukee sends Randy Wolf (13-10) against Pittsburgh’s Ross Ohlendorf (1-3).  First pitch is 7:10.
