Marcum to join the Mets

According to an ESPN.com report, the New York Mets have agreed to a one-year

contract with right-hander Shaun Marcum, pending a physical.

The 31-year old Marcum will fill the void left after R.A. Dickey was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Marcum went 7-4 with a 3.70 ERA in 21 starts last season for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Outfielder Nyjer Morgan signed to play with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Japan’s Central League.  Morgan is set to earn a reported $1.6-million.

Brewers make roster moves

The Milwaukee Brewers have reinstated first baseman Mat Gamel, shortstop Alex Gonzalez and left-handed pitcher Chris Narveson from the 60-day disabled list.

Gonzalez, right-handed pitcher Shaun Marcum and right-handed reliever Francisco Rodriguez have all elected free agency.

The Brewers 40-man roster stands at 36 players.

Brewers release Wolf

The Milwaukee Brewers have released left-handed pitcher Randy Wolf today.

Wolf struggled much of the season, posting a 3-10 record with a 5.69 ERA. 

Wolf went 13-12 with a 4.17 ERA in his first season with the Brewers and followed that up last year with a 13-10 record and a 3.69 ERA. 

Wolf is in the final year of his contract, but the deal does have a club option for 2013 with a $1.5-million buyout, which the Brewers will obviously have to pay.

In 142 1/2 innings, Wolf allowed a league highs in hits with 179 and earned runs with 90.

Shaun Marcum is scheduled to come off of injured reserve and pitch against the Pirates Saturday or Sunday.  Wolf’s release will allow Marcum to move into the rotation.

The Brewers also called up infielder Jeff Bianchi from Class AAA Nashville.

Marcum’s solid in 3rd rehab start

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Shaun Marcum pitched the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 8-1 win in his 3rd rehab start on Monday night.

Marcum allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 6-innings against the Peoria Chiefs in Midwest League action. 

Marcum has been on the Brewers disabled list since mid-June with elbow soreness.  He’s expected to rejoin the Brewers soon.

Marcum to pitch in Appleton tonight

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were rained out at home against Cedar Rapids last night.  The two teams will play a double-header today, with the first game starting at 5:35pm.

Milwaukee Brewers right hander Shaun Marcum was scheduled to make a rehab start for the Timber Rattlers last night.  He’ll now start the first game of the double-header tonight.  Marcum will be on a 40-pitch count.

Cedar Rapids will start Cam Bedrosian, the son of former NL Cy Young Award winner Steve Bedrosian.

Marcum’s arm still on the mend

Shaun Marcum did some throwing on Monday and revealed that his right elbow is still sore.  That means more rest for Marcum and for the Milwaukee Brewers to continue with Plan B.

Marcum has missed his last two starts and could be sidelined for some time.  He’s currently on the teams 15-day disabled list.

Marco Estrada is ready to return to the Brewers active roster.  He’ll start for the Brewers against the Cincinnati Reds tonight. 

Marcum is 5-3 with a 3.39 era in 13 starts for the Brewers this season.  Estrada returns to action with a 0-3 record and a 4.50 era.

Marcum will miss tonight’s start

Milwaukee Brewers right hander Shaun Marcum will miss his schedule start tonight in game 2 of their series with the Toronto Blue Jays at Miller Park.

Marcum is plagued by elbow tightness.  The Brewers will call up a pitcher from the minors later today.

Marcum had won three straight starts before a no-decision in Kansas City last week.  He’s 5-3 on the season with a 3.39 ERA in 13 starts.

By missing the start tonight, Marcum will miss a chance to pitch against his former team.  Toronto traded Marcum to the Brewers for Brett Lawrie.

Marcum leads Brewers past Dodgers

The Milwaukee Brewers haven’t had a lot go right this season, when they head to the 8th inning with a lead, they’re a sure bet to

Aramis Ramirez homered and drove in a pair of runs to back the strong pitching of right hander Shaun Marcum.  Marcum held the Los Angeles Dodgers to 1 run on 6 hits in 7 innings. 

Francisco Rodriguez allowed a run in the eighth, but closer John Axford kept the Dodgers off the board in the ninth, stranding the potential tying run at second.  Axford notched his 8th save in 9 chances, with his fastball reaching 98 to 100 mph.

The Brewers improved to 2-2 on the road trip.  They called up pitcher Michael Fiers to start game 2 of the series against the Dodgers tonight.  Fiers takes the spot in the rotation previously occupied by Marco Estrada.

Brewers fall to Diamondbacks

The Milwaukee Brewers suffered a 4-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday in Phoenix and in doing so, dropped their 4th straight series. 

It also marked the first home series win for Arizona since their season opening sweep over the San Francisco.

Jose Veras took the loss in relief, surrendering RBI singles to Ryan Roberts and Henry Blanco.

Ron Roenicke was short another player, placing first baseman Travis Ishikawa (oblique strain) on the disabled list.  Catcher George Kottaras had to leave the game with a hamstring cramp, and reliever Kameron Loe wasn’t available because of elbow soreness.

The Brewers head to Los Angeles to open a 4-game series against the Dodgers tonight.  Shaun Marcum gets the start for the Brewers.

Brewers lack clutch hitting again

when the dust settled, the scoreboard read SAN FRANCISCO 6 MILWAUKEE 4.

Buster Posey clubbed a monster home run off of that center field scoreboard and drove in 3-runs in the victory.  Posey also drove in a run with a ground rule double in the 1st inning as the Brewers once again, fell behind.
