Brewers 1-win away from NLCS

October 3, 2011 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers exploded for 5-runs in the 6th inning and beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4 at Miller Park on Sunday.  The Brewers take a 2-0 lead in the series, which now shifts to Phoenix for game 3 of the best-of-5 series Tuesday night.

The Brewers led 4-1 early, but Zach Greinke couldn’t hold it.  The Diamondbacks clubbed 3-home runs off of Greinke to tie the score in the 5th.  Brewers catcher Jonathan LuCroy said Greinke’s control and command was off, but he still did the job.

Lucroy started the scoring in the 6th with a suicide squeeze bunt that plated Jerry Hairston Jr., who doubled earlier.  Lucroy said he works on suicide squeeze bunts and it’s helped.

Ryan Braun clubbed a 2-run homer and drove in three runs.  Jerry Hairston Jr. and Corey Hart added 2-hits for the Brewers.

The Brewers now head to Phoenix and hope the series will be finished there.  Shaun Marcum gets the game 3 nod for the Brewers on Tuesday night.
