Marquette advances to second round

March 15, 2012 By Bill Scott

Jae Crowder scored 26 points and pulled down a career high 16 rebounds to lead the Marquette Golden Eagles to an 88-68 win over Brigham Young in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to an 18-5 lead early but got off to a terrible start in the second half.  Marquette turned it over 6-times to start the second half and watched as BYU climbed to within 6-points (52-46).

Marquette then rattled off 8-straight points, followed by a 9-0 run and never looked back.

Darius Johnson-Odom scored 20-points, Davante Gardner had 15 points and 6 rebounds and Todd Mayo had 10 to help Crowder.

The Golden Eagles advanced to face Murray State (31-1) on Saturday in Louisville.  The winner of that game advances to the Sweet 16.
