Brewers bullpen suffers another meltdown

July 30, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers bullpen worked 5 1/3 innings on Sunday.  Their final

John Axford

numbers:  9 runs on 9 hits with 5 walks.

Michael Morse hit a tying 2-run homer in the 9th, then delivered a 2-run double in the 11th that sent the Washington Nationals to a 11-10 win over the Brewers at Miller Park.  The Nationals won 3 of 4 in the series and the Brewers have now dropped 9 of their last 10 games.

Mark Rogers got the start after being called up earlier from Triple (A) Nashville.  He left with a 3-2 lead after 5 2/3 innings.  Rogers said he’s not upset about the no decision.  He said he’s concentrating more on his effort right now.

Francisco Rodriguez, John Axford and Jose Veras were the biggest culprits for the Brewers bullpen.  Axford coughed up a pair of 2-run leads.

The Brewers fell 16 games behind the front-running Cincinnati Reds, who won their 10th in-a-row yesterday.

The Brewers start a series against the Houston Astros at Miller Park tonight.  Milwaukee starts the day just 2 1/2 games in front of the streaking Chicago Cubs in the National League Central Division standings.
