Hockey Badgers open final WCHA season with a victory

October 27, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Wisconsin Badger men’s hockey team will be shifting to the Big Ten Conference next season.  They opened their final WCHA

Joel Rumpel

campaign last night with a 2-0 win over Minnesota-Duluth at Amsoil Arena in Duluth last night.

Wisconsin junior center Mark Zengerle assisted on a goal by junior right-winger Tyler Barnes in the first period, then scored on a power play in the second for the only two goals of the game.

Sophomore goaltender Joel Rumpel kept the Bulldogs from scoring in a 29-save effort.  Rumpel recorded his 4th career shutout for Mike Eaves Badgers, who improved to 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the WCHA.

The final game of the 2-game series is tonight in Duluth.
