Whitewater picked as pre-season favorites to win men’s hoops title

November 9, 2012 By Bill Scott

Defending NCAA Division III Champion UW-Whitewater, is the preseason choice to secure the 2013 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) men’s basketball championship in a vote by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The Warhawks, ranked third nationally in a preseason poll by D3hoops.com, received 15 first-place votes in the conference projections after winning the third NCAA Division III championship in program history and 10th by a WIAC program a season ago.

UW-Stevens Point, ranked 15th in the D3hoops.com poll, secured the remaining three first-place votes in the league poll and is slotted for a second place conference finish.

LaCrosse finished 3rd, Platteville 4th and River Falls 5th.  The rest of the poll is Eau Claire, Stout, Superior and Oshkosh projected to finish 6 through 10.
