Marquette starts Big East Tournament on Thursday

The Marquette Golden Eagles, fresh off their first ever Big East men’s basketball championship, will play its first game in the tournament on Thursday.  Marquette gets the late game on Thursday against either Notre Dame, Rutgers or DePaul.

The Golden Eagles (23-7, 14-4 Big East) tied their own school record for conference wins (14) with a 69-67 victory over St. John’s in overtime on Saturday.  Vander Blue’s driving lay-up as time expired gave the Golden Eagles a share of the Big East Championship with Georgetown and Louisville.

Here’s the Big East tournament lineup for the week:

First Round – Tuesday

Seton Hall vs. South Florida  6pm
Rutgers vs. DePaul  8pm

Second Round – Wednesday

Providence vs. Cincinnati, 11am
Syracuse vs. Seton Hall or South Florida, 1pm
Villanova vs. St. John’s 6pm
Notre Dame vs. Rutgers or DePaul 8pm

Quarterfinals – Thursday

Georgetown vs. Providence or Cincinnati, 11am
Pittsburgh vs. Seton Hall, South Florida or Syracuse, 1pm
Louisville vs. Villanova or St. John’s 6pm
Marquette vs. Notre Dame, Rutgers or DePaul 8pm
