Brewers fall into NL Central basement

May 16, 2013 By Bill Scott

For the second night in a row, runs were hard to come by for the Milwaukee Brewers and it cost them a 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Wednesday night.

The Brewers finished 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and fell to Wandy Rodriguez, who allowed 1-run over second solid innings and the Pirates moved 6-games over .500 for the first time this season.  Rodriguez (4-2) gave up six hits, walking one and striking out five.

Neil Walker drove in a pair of runs for the Pirates with a 6th-inning single off of Yovani Gallardo.  Gallardo (3-3) was solid through 5-innings, then lost it in the sixth.

The Brewers scored their only run on a Rickie Weeks home run, his 3rd of the season.

The Brewers have now dropped 11 of their last 13 games and fell into last place in the NL Central Division, percentage points behind the Chicago Cubs.

The fourth and final game of the series is tonight at PNC Park.  Hiram Burgos pitches for Milwaukee (1-1, 6.86) while Pittsburgh lefty Francisco Liriano (1-0, 1.69) goes for the Pirates.
