Brewers and Cubs open a series at Miller Park (Audio)

June 25, 2013 By Bill Scott

It’s a battle of last place teams in the NL Central, or if you want to take a more positive take, teams that are tied for 4th place in the division.  The Milwaukee Brewers welcome the Chicago Cubs to Miller Park tonight for the first of three.  The teams have identical 31-43 records.

Brewers Manager Ron Roencike has been playing “musical starters” this month with Marco Estrada and Hiram Burgos on the DL.  Estrada was on the hill for Class A Wisconsin Sunday in a rehab start but struggled.  He allowed 6-runs on 8-hits in 2 2/3-innings of work.  Roenicke was hoping Estrada could be back this week…

Burgos tossed one scoreless inning in Nashville Sunday in his return to action.

Milwaukee is also hopefully that it won’t be too long before OF Carlos Gomez returns to the line-up.  Gomez is day-to-day with a shoulder sprain suffered in Sunday’s loss to Atlanta when he ran into the wall.

Kyle Lohse takes the ball tonight in the opener for Milwaukee against Chicago’s Edwin Jackson.  First pitch is set for 7:10.
