McCarthy doesn’t rule out Cobb as returner

June 6, 2013 By Bill Scott

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been talking about receiver

Randall Cobb

Randall Cobb

Randall Cobb catching 100+ passes this coming season.  With Greg Jennings gone, Cobb will get even more opportunities with the Packers.

Cobb’s increased value to the Packers offense, one would assume his duties as a returner would be a thing of the past.  The Packers would certainly like to find somebody else to handle returns, somebody like WR Jeremy Ross.  Coach Mike McCarthy said it’s up to Cobb’s teammates to take the job away from Randall.

Cobb averaged 25.4 yards on kickoff returns and 9.4 yards on punt returns last year.  He’s not going to ask off of those duties either.  If it takes returning punts and kicks to help the Packers win, then that’s what Cobb will do.

This job will go right down to the wire in training camp this summer.  Given Cobb’s role in the offense, most Packers’ fans are hoping the Packers find somebody else to step up and take over the return duties.
