Hockey Badgers open road trip with win, Badger women fall

March 8, 2014 By Bill Scott

The 5th ranked Wisconsin Badgers were 0-5 in Big Ten road series openers going into last night’s game against Penn State at University Park.  The Badgers ended that streak by knocking off the Nittany Lions 4-2.

The Badgers jumped out to a 3-0 lead but Penn State would score twice to make it 3-2.  The Badgers didn’t seal the win until Mark Zengerle scored into the empty net with 6-seconds left to play at Pegula Ice Arena.

Michael Mersch and Tyler Barnes scored first period goals for the Badgers.  Nic Kerdiles added the third goal in the second period.  Kerdiles and Zengerle both had 4-point nights (1 goal & 3 assists).

Casey Bailey and Taylor Holstrom scored 3rd period goals for Penn State.  The final game of the series is tonight.
