The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes hit Platteville late Monday night.

The first was an EF-2 tornado that caused significant damage to homes and businesses on the south and southwest side of the city, including the UW-Platteville campus and Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. The low-end EF-2 tornado had 120 mile an hour winds.

The second tornado was a high-end EF-1, that winds of up to 105 miles an hour and caused damage on the city’s north side.

City officials say six people were injured. Of those, five of them are ok while the condition of the sixth person is unknown. There were no fatalities.

A state of emergency has been declared in Platteville to deal with the aftermath of the storm. There were 12 houses destroyed, while another 20 suffered damage.
