Matthews says his thumb is ready to go

After two weeks of Green Bay Packers training camp workouts, linebacker Clay Matthews said he and his surgically repaired thumb are ready to go.

Matthews said he expects to start Saturday’s preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans and felt his thumb is back to where it needs to be to get a solid grip on a ball carrier and have no issues bringing him down.

Matthews did have a chance at an interception in practice on Wednesday but had the hard thrown pass from Matt Flynn go through his hands.  Matthews said, “Flynn put a little extra zip on that, and it just kind of caught me off-guard.  It won’t happen on game day.”

Injury Update

Safety Morgan Burnett missed a second day of practice with an oblique strain.  Coach Mike McCarthy said Burnett is considered day-to-day.

Letroy Guion (hamstring) and Jerel Worth (back) have not practiced yet and McCarthy gave no timetable for their return.
