Review process breaks down late in Wisconsin’s loss to Duke

April 8, 2015 By Bill Scott

We’ve all seen the replay of the ball that went out-of-bounds with less than two minutes to play in the NCAA Tournament Championship game between Duke and Wisconsin.  The Badgers trailed by five points at the time and after the ball sailed out-of-bounds, the officials went to review to determine who should get the basketball.

A replay from the CBS Broadcast showed the ball should have belonged to Wisconsin but the official review gave the ball to Duke, which was consistent with the original on-court ruling.

John Adams is the head of officiating for the NCAA and offered this explanation for the outcome of the play.

Adams made his comments on: College Sports on Sirius XM on Tuesday.

The officials also missed a Duke player touching the end line which would have given the ball back to the Badgers in the final minutes of Wisconsin’s 5-point loss to the Blue Devils.
