Outfielder Shane Peterson had been designated for assignment last week when the Milwaukee Brewers acquired outfielder Rymer Liriano from San Diego. Peterson cleared waivers on Thursday and was sent outright to Class AAA Colorado Springs.
Peterson received an invitation to Brewers’ spring training camp as a non-roster player.
The 27-year-old Peterson hit .294 as a pinch-hitter for the Brewers last season and played in 91 games in all. For the season, he hit .259 with two homers and 16 RBI.
The Brewers needed to open a 40-man roster spot to acquire Liriano and did so by designating Peterson. Now he is one of 17 non-roster players invited to spring training.
