Nelson’s struggles continue for the Brewers

September 10, 2016 By Bill Scott

Brewers logoMilwaukee pitcher Jimmy Nelson’s struggles continued in St. Louis on Friday night as the Cardinals ended the Brewers 3-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory.

St. Louis scored all four of their runs on a pair of home runs off Nelson in the third inning, all with two outs.

Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez singled and Matt Carpenter clubbed a two-run home run, to cut the Brewers lead to a single run at 3-2.  The Cardinals would get another base runner and this time it was Stephen Piscotty who launched a home run off of Nelson to give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead.

Nelson dropped to 2-11 with a 5.64 ERA over his last 19 starts.  He’s 7-14 overall on the season with a 4.42 ERA.

Scooter Gennett clubbed a two run homer in the top of the third to give the Brewers a 3-0 lead before the Cardinals rebounded in the bottom half.

Chase Anderson (8-11) pitches the third game of the series for the Brewers on Saturday night.  Adam Wainwright (10-8) goes for the Cardinals.
